Kendre’ is no stranger to the stage and screen. Known for
his roles on a variety of TV shows, from “Girlfriends” to Nickelodeon’s “All
That” and now, alongside “Sons of Anarchy” star Ron Perlman on Amazon Prime’s
Original Series “Hand of God.” Though acting is where Kendre’ found his
spotlight, music has always been his ultimate fate. “A lot of us Nickelodeon
kids were encouraged to find our musical gifts. I began messing around with
production, and along the way I discovered the artist in me,” explains the
young artist. With a distinct, crooning sound, Kendre’s music brings listeners
back to a better time – influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, The
Temptations, Curtis Mayfield, and more. Continues Kendre’, “Even though I’m
twenty-five in 2016, what I do is a time jump from 1980.”
Now, he’s ready to make his R&B debut with his newest
EP, Guess Again. Released on
Valentine’s Day, the album is Kendre’s formal introduction to the world as an
established R&B singer. Kendre’ also released a video for “Right Here,” a
song on the album that adds zest to an otherwise R&B-heavy record. “When
making the album, that song added twang so the album didn’t feel too saturated
with R&B – I wanted to make something for people to have fun to.” The song
is playful, urban, sexual and silly; an anthem for a good time.
Though Kendre’ began as an actor, his ultimate goal is to
make music his “main gig,” as it slowly but surely becomes his main job. Says Kendre’,
“I’m blessed to be a part of both worlds, but I feel music has a legendary
touch. Through music, you can become a sound and be remembered so much bigger.
With music, you can live forever.”
